30 days ago, my friend Matt and I started a Kickstarter. We thought we had a pretty good idea for a film. We cut together a trailer, hoping to give backers a feel for what we wanted the movie to be. And we agonized over how much to set our Kickstarter goal for. Too little, and we risked being stranded in middle America with no money and half a movie. Too much, and we wouldn’t be able to raise the funds in only 30 days.

A lot can change in 30 days.

Thanks to all of YOU, that goal we were so nervous about reaching was blown out of the water. Instead of $15,000, our Kickstarter ended with a whopping $24,091. Unbelievable. Because of YOU, we’ve had plane tickets, food, and even stickers donated to support our project. Because of YOU we have free places to stay in 20 cities around the United States. Because of YOU, we’ve been contacted by TV stations and radio programs, newspapers, blogs, and magazines. What I’m saying is: You guys killed it.

30 days ago, Matt and I were trying to figure out how to get everything done. We now have Giana and Brad, our Executive Producers, along with Evans, Anne, Hassan, Anna, and Maggie, our Production Assistants. Get excited, because this team is ready for action.

And the best part of this whirlwind month? It’s just the beginning. We’re about to embark on the most ambitious road trip any of us has ever been a part of. (And I don’t say that lightly. Maggie and I drove to Alaska once, straight through, no stopping. I’m sure I’ll have flashbacks at some point.) We have 10 days until we leave, and about 30 days worth of work to do in the meantime. If you see us around LA, feel free to buy us a coffee. We’re going to need it.

We’re still looking for a car sponsorship. We’ve got a list of sound equipment to buy. Bags to pack, people to train, paperwork to fill out, permits to acquire…you get the idea. It’s going to be exhausting, and thrilling, and hilarious. And we’d love for you to follow us. I’ll be blogging here on our web site, followfridaythefilm.com. I’m sure there will be days when I pass it off to someone else. Consider them guest bloggers. You can also follow the film on Twitter: @ff_thefilm. I would recommend everyone follow, especially those looking for a G-rated account of the trip. As I’ve told my mother and everyone else who will listen, my Twitter feed is just me – I’m rarely crass, but you’re definitely going to get a more PG-13-rated version of the trip. And if things go poorly, there may be occasional adult language. But it will be personal, and honest, and the basis for the film, so feel free to follow: @erinscafe. Just note that you have been warned.

We’ll also have links to our Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook…you get the idea. I’ll share those over the next 10 days, along with the Twitter accounts of the rest of our crew. They’ll be able to give you a great behind-the-scenes look at the whole process. We’re all incredibly excited to get this show on the road.

For now, please know that you have our heartfelt thanks, and sincerest appreciation. Seriously. Giving money to support independent filmmaking should really qualify you for sainthood. We’re all incredibly grateful to have this opportunity to make our vision a reality. It wouldn’t have happened without you. We hope to see you soon.
